This is one of Inlander’s most famous paintings, a self-portrait painted in his studio in Putney. This is one of many self-portraits he did as he explored the life of a painter who was under great pressure to conform to the styles of the time. Completed in the late1960’s, this painting is full of the angst and pleasure that Inlander gained from being an artist. He wanted recognition but disliked the market for art and the dealers he knew. This painting is not the summary of a career, but it comes close.
